After having a very informative discussion with Stef Hall, a reporter with the Lancashire Evening Post, I have decided to rework the content of the site, effective immediately.

Stef’s Article titled Help us Stop the Peddlers of Death goes a long way toward explaining her motivation.

I have begun the process of removing all suicide-related discussion from Lurid and will replace all interactive content (commenting, the forum, etc) with static educational information and links to suicide prevention sites and organizations such as the Samaritans and the Hopeline Network.

While I see the value of an open forum to discuss suicide prevention, I think the best chance of getting through a suicide crisis is to engage the professionals at one of those organizations. Being one of those professionals myself, now that I have completed training, I see the value of directing people to the appropriate resource.

I know some of you have come to see Lurid as a part of your personal support and coping structure. For you guys, I highly suggest getting in touch with the Samaratins or the guys at the Hopeline Network. They can help you develop a plan of action and explore new coping methods.

This is what i told you would happen. I told yoou you would become one of “THEM”. and now you have….

I quite agree with Jo. This was a valuble link and help for desperate people. If this site had of been monitored and the more damaging mailings were deleted before beening posted surely it could of continued. I thing the narrow minded do gooders have won again. This site gave people the opportunity to express there selves, now its gone i feel that there will be a lot more suicides out there. I know that this saved me!!

Oh, please, get over it. It was an incredibly stupid idea in the first place, a huge pity party for people with problems who needed medication and psychotherapy. And what good came out of it? Well, let’s see. A couple of people offed themselves. A bunch of people who needed REAL PROFESSIONAL HELP wasted their time talking to a bunch of OTHER screwed up people. THAT was productive.

Yeah, Chris should quit his job to moderate the forum 24/7…or HIRE people to do that…incurring expense and continuing to open himself up to potential legal liability just so suicidal people can talk to each other.

If it’s such a grand idea, why don’t YOU step up to the plate and put up your own suicide chat site? What’s that? You just want to hurl criticism without offering an alternative? That’s constructive. That’s positive. And what a great show of appreciation to someone who bent over backward to give you the forum you wanted for what, a year or so. Did you pay his hosting fees? Did you pay for his bandwidth?

You oughtta frickin’ be ashamed of yourself.

Thank Chris for what he DID do for you, and move on…preferably to a place that can provide you with real counseling from real therapists.

    Becky, ok……

    I have a suggestion….

    www.teejer.net

This is a website and chatroom that helps people with depression through a positive and caring atmosphere. Chat is FULLY moderated, and the forums cater for all ages; sexes; disorders and personality types.

This site provides support, and information about how to access help for those who need it.

Becky, thank you for calling all the people that used this site screwed up, obviously what depressed people need is re-enforcement of negative self-image. Not everyone is able to access help when it is needed.

Good luck to everyone, and Chris? I hope the CIT goes well. Good luck.
