Suddenly, I realized....
I left for work this morning at my normally appointed time. I took the route I usually take. I listened to NPR like I normally do. Saw the same sights that I normally see.
Rounding a bend in the road, I was greeted something I normally do not see. It was a huge hot-air balloon, hovering a few hundred yards away. Brilliant purple and green and adorned with a sunburst pattern in yellow, maroon and orange. The sun reflected playfully off of its contours and I had to pause for a second for the though to register that this was real and not from a video game.
I tend to take things for granted, my routine for a given, and often view life as an impermeable, static amalgamation of past experiences. I am comfortable where I am. I'm happy.
But every now and then, I round a corner and am confronted with something that makes me remember the potential, unexpected beauty that surrounds us. Unexplored places revealed, like a cleavage in a familiar landscape, bathed with brilliant new light.

It really is amazing what you see when something opens your eyes. Extreme, blinding clarity. Everything around you slows down and lifes troubles become translucent. You can see the innate beauty within all that surrounds you.
Its hard to slow down, to breathe in the scent of everything, to drink in its perfection. If only we could all do it more often. If only it happened forever. If only we could let go of all the anger, tension and frustration to stop and smell the roses.
If it hasn't ever happened yet, I promise you will know when it does. It sounds like you have, Christopher.

It is very hard to just stop and look sometimes. I try every so often to just sit and be.

That is what happens when you close yourself off to the rest of life. Welcome to a new door :)
Never ever take life or the natural beauty that surrounds us for granted.

I'm fascinated by the beauty of life in general. But Chris?
Im more interested your interpretation of what happened last week....(i forget whether it was the thursday or the friday)...........beauty is not purely in what we see and hear and touch and smell and taste........does it not also come more from what we imagine a thing to look; sound; feel; taste or smell like? Is it not our imagination and thoughts that give these things such beauty???? :)
